Cultivation of garden- and houseplants
Cushion moss has an extraordinary high water storage capacity. It takes in water from the air and the soil, retains it and releases it little by little to its surroundings. It prevents standing water and mould formation since it is highly permeable to air and provides a healthy microclimate.
Cushion moss can also be used as a highly nutritious substrate for orchids which promotes growth and health.
It is ideal for covering the soil in flowerpots and planting throughs.

Usability in outdoor gardens
Outdoor-plants profit from cushion moss as well, due to its antiseptic effect and air-permeability and its ability to retain excess water and to filter pollutants from the air.
In japanese zen-gardens cushion moss is a symbol for peace, tranquility and stability.

Usability for terraristics / in terrariums
Having cushion moss in a terrarium leads to higher humidity, a better climate and hinders mold growth due to its anticeptic effect.
This very aesthetic moss can be used as cushions or padding on the floor and sides of the terrarium or simply for decorative reasons. This way you create a beautiful natural environment for your pet. It can be easily attached to stone, wood, and other materials with non-toxic glues.
Especially suitable for snakes, frogs, geckos and other terrarium animals.

Further uses:

Arts & Crafts and decorations
Cushion moss is one of the few mosses that are suitable for decoration purposes. It can be used for decorations indoors and outdoors.

Cushion moss is particularly popular in model building

(architectural models, railway modelling, etc.) where it can be used to create beautiful landscapes.

Floristry:

Cushion moss is often used in Christmas-wreaths or flower-wreaths, or Easter-baskets and many other arrangements.

Cushion moss can help regulate the humidity

in living spaces

and improve your indoor climate. It can work as an indicator for your room’s humidity: if the humidity is too low the surface of the cushion moss will be dry and hard, if its just right it will be soft, moist and light green.

Mosspictures:
